It's been a tough week for household budgets, and unfortunately, the Home Office is adding to the pressure. If you are a British national living in Newquay or beyond, and your passport is approaching its expiry date, this is your timely warning to act now.
The Home Office has confirmed that the cost of applying for or renewing a British Passport is set to rise by exactly 8%.
For the first time in British history, a standard adult passport renewal will cross the £100 mark.
The Price of Freedom: A Before and After Look
Below, we have compiled a clear comparison between the current fees and the new, higher prices that will apply to applications submitted from Wednesday, 8 April.
| Passport Service (Standard Online) | Current Fee | New Fee from 8 April | % Increase |
| Adult Renewal / First-time | £94.50 | £102 | 8% |
| Child Renewal / First-time | £61.50 | £66.50 | 8% |

| Overseas Adult (Standard) | £108 | £116.50 | 8% |
| Overseas Child (Standard) | £70 | £75.50 | 8% |
Postal application fees are also set to rise similarly, with an adult renewal moving from £107 to £115.50.
Our Strategic Advice: Check Your Whole Family’s Expiry Dates Now
Renewing your passport might seem like a straightforward task, but in our experience, the simplest tasks can cause the biggest headaches if left to the last minute—especially when it involves coordinating a whole family.
Our urgent advice is to take ten minutes this week to find everyone's passport—including children, whose passports only last for five years—and check the "Expiry Date".
It is advisable to submit any renewals or new applications well before the 8 April deadline to lock in the lower fee. Even if your passport doesn't expire for another six or nine months, you are permitted to renew early. Any remaining time on your old passport will not be transferred to the new one, but for a family of four renewing online before the deadline, you would still save around £22.00.
For parents, remember that child passports often require additional original documents, which can take time to source, so starting the process sooner rather than later is prudent. Turnaround times are currently good, but available appointments—particularly for urgent services—will evaporate as the deadline approaches and the Easter holidays begin.
D&A Solicitors: Here for the Complex Cases
While standard passport renewals are a simple "do-it-yourself" process, we understand that not every case is standard. At D&A Solicitors, we frequently advise on complex nationality and identity matters that go far beyond a standard renewal form.
You should contact our team if:
Your passport has been lost, stolen, or damaged.
You need help with a first-time passport following a complex nationality registration (such as a child’s registration).
Your name, gender marker, or other vital identification details need to be officially changed.
Your application has been stuck or rejected due to passport office errors.
Don't let a minor administrative delay turn your next family holiday into an expensive panic. Check your expiry dates today and act before 8 April to save.
